| May – “National Motorcycle Awareness and You” Month |
As spring has arrived, the flowers are blooming, the weather is turning nicer and as our world begins to brighten, many of us flock to our two-wheel passions to once again enjoy the freedom and enjoyment motorcycling can bring.
Unfortunately, this is also one of the most precarious times of year for motorcyclists. During the long winter months of motorcycling inactivity, many of our riding skills become diminished and other highway users have certainly forgotten to look for motorcyclists.
It is a time of year to break out that bright retro-reflective riding gear to aid in making riders as conspicuous as possible to motorists. Maybe it’s a good idea to take an advanced rider course and brush up on some riding skills too.
May is “National Motorcycle Awareness and You” Month. It is the time of year GWRRA Members join with the rest of the motorcycling community and launch awareness projects to remind motorists they “Share the Road” with motorcyclists.
GWRRA’s “Share the Road” campaign, with emphasis in awareness education through seminar presentations, combined with awareness advertising and effective public relations, can have dramatic results in reducing conflicts between motorcyclists and other highway users.
Take a few minutes and review the three motorist awareness PowerPoint seminars currently available to our Members. These seminars may be viewed and downloaded from the Motorist Awareness page of the GWRRA National website at: http://www.gwrra.org/regional/MAD/index.html
We encourage GWRRA’s corps of seminar presenters to use these presentations; however, they are available for use by any Member. With a little practice, anyone can deliver an effective presentation to an audience in their community.
Ride safe, ride aware, and do your part to help get motorists to “Share the Road” with motorcyclists.
Have a wonderful riding season, and we will see you at Wing Ding.
