Chapter of the Year Ribbon Shows Pride
CHOY PatchWhen Mary and I were given the honor of facilitating the Chapter of the Year program, we were very excited. I had read about the program and had thought about what an honor it was for any Chapter to be recognized for being the best of the best. As we began the process this year to determine the Chapter of the Year for the Ohio District, we were so impressed with the submissions that we received. The amount of work and time given by these Chapters was outstanding. We also saw the amount of pride that these Chapters had in their Chapter, their Members, and the things that they accomplished. We thought how important it is to properly recognize not only the Chapter but the Members who make it run.

All of us take pride in our Chapter colors and especially our vests. They are a source of recognition for who we are and what we have accomplished. Because of this, we wanted to come up with something that told not only GWRRA Members, but anyone the Member came in contact with, that the person they were speaking to was a Member of a Chapter of the Year. We also wanted something that encouraged participating Chapters to keep applying themselves to being as good as they can be. What better way than to have a recognition patch that not only clearly states the accomplishment but has the ability to be added onto for each year of accomplishment.

We intentionally selected the ribbon design to represent how the program is never-ending. Then we designed the year rocker to nestle under the ribbon with the ability to be stacked each successive year that the Chapter is selected. I see great things for the program and I think that anyone who would speak to a Member of a Chapter of the Year would hear the pride in the accomplishment. Our District and Region Chapter of the Year, E-2 from the Cincinnati area, wears the Chapter of the Year ribbon with great pride. No matter where a current or former Chapter of the Year Member goes, they will be readily recognized as having been selected as part of an elite group who will have the honor of wearing the ribbon and being able to say, I was a part of something great.
